Right..
Before I go into this, consider this a warning...
THE FOLLOWING MAY CAUSE OFFENCE, GO AGAINST YOUR PERSONAL OPINION OR NOT HAVE THE SAME POINT OF VIEW AS YOU HAVE.
All I can say to that is if you think the X Factor is super special awesome and cant bear anyone to say anything against it, dont open this post up fully.. and if you do, then get all self righteous and post some bitchy comment about how i dont know what i'm on about and you hope i die of something horrible etc dont be surprised if i delete the comment..
so without further ado...
The show finished for another year yesterday, and part of me is hoping it'll never come back...
I refuse to watch it, but its still rammed down my throat with tweets, status updates and papers endlessly going on about it.. and making shit up.. i mean since when did Cheryl "Skeletor" Cole (né Tweedy) become the "nations sweetheart"? i mean WHAT THE FUCK??!? was there a vote? did i miss a memo? since when did a neurotic, self-indulged, bony-faced, pampered, spoilt talentless whore become something that important?
anyway, thats a whole different rant...
No, my problem with this "show" is the fact of what it shows.. its an open, exposed look at how the "Music Industry" has been manipulating people and music (and by certain degrees society itself) for years..
For the older people amongst you, remember milli vanilli? all the controversy surrounding how "pop stars" were being "manufactured" from people with no actual talent because they had the right look, how those with musical talent were being sucked dry writing music for these vapid, glass eyed souless dead-dolls they dressed up and paraded around for the guillable teens to fall in love with and spend all their disposable income on?
Sound familiar? BECAUSE THATS EXACTLY WHAT THE FUCKING X FACTOR IS!!
These people they have compete.. they dont actually have talent.. the talent goes out of the contest early, though likely cornered and earmarked by the industry for song-writing purposes.. some can barely hold a tune without heavy vocal coaching and technical help (remember all the fuss about the "auto-tune" and compression being used early this year?) but they have "the look" and they're so stupidly star-struck and fame hungry they'll buy into anything so they dress them up pretty and parade them out.
Normally this shit went on behind closed doors, and was the end of a career if found out.. however, thanks to Simon "my torse is three inches long" Cowell now the nation gets to "enjoy" the process, even take part!...
Every year we allow this farce to carry on, that man makes hundreds of thousands of pounds from your stupidity.. its the ultimate marketing tool.. get the public emotionally invested in the whole event, build the hype up with controversy and crazy decisions.. end the show *just* in time for the X-mass buying season so merchandise and the eventual product is ready.. single for x-mass, album just in time to hoover up those x-mass record vouchers relatives who dont know you too well give.. wait 6 months for people's interests to fade and rinse and repeat..
It all happens on his label, his record production, his TV production.. every penny you spend on anything related to that show passes through his hands in one way or another.. the "artist" gets a pittance, the song-writers get less than that... and Cap'n High-pants sits on a pile of cash and probably jerks off to pictures of skeletons and/or Cheryl Cole (not much difference tbh)
Last year, an internet campaign kept the X factor out of the UK charts for the X-mass No1 spot with a song that stated "Fuck you, I wont do what you tell me". it made history.
This year there's several campaigns like this running.. personally I'm behind "Cage against the machine" to get John Cage's "4'33" to the No1 spot... because I'd sooner hear silence than anything that'll give Cowell money.
